What we need from you

Ideally, you’ll have a minimum of 2 years experience in Housekeeping Supervisory role in a hotel or comparable industry, ability to demonstrate working with and engaging teams from different cultures, quality oriented with focus on details, high performance standards, able to multi-task & meet deadlines and technical proficiency in related software.  Must speak fluent English and basic Spanish.

This job requires ability to perform the following:

  • Carrying or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds and pushing and or pushing/pulling approximately 200 pounds
  • Frequently standing up and moving about the hotel
  • Frequently handling objects and equipment to maintain the hotel
  • Frequently bending, stooping, and kneeling


  • Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with guests and employees.
  • Reading and writing abilities are utilized often when compiling departmental records, logs, or paperwork.
  • Basic mathematical skills are used occasionally.
  • May be required to work weekends and/or holidays.
  • Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office efficiency.

We have housing available for our employees that is just a few minutes walk from the hotel.  Our Town of Tusayan (population 600) is only a few blocks long, so all dining and some grocery shopping are within easy walking distance. There is also a larger store inside the National Park.  A free shuttle bus begins running daily (around 8am) into the Park, to and from Tusayan in March and continues until October. Hop on the shuttle to shop in the South Rim Village or to go to canyon viewpoints and trail heads – click here to find out more about us and our beautiful location.

Your day to day

Supervise and inspect the work of assigned Room Attendants, Porters, Housemen, and Laundry staff, to ensure product quality and brand standards are met and that optimum service is provided to hotel guests according to hotel and company business objectives.

  1. Maintain a current and thorough knowledge of all housekeeping systems (Opera and Quore), and brand standards.
  2. Assign workers their duties and inspect work for conformance to prescribed standards
  3. Budget oversight.
  4. Distribution and collection of keys while maintaining an accurate key log.
  5. Management of all departmental staff scheduling.
  6. Solve employee grievances
  7. Liaise with Front Office for guest and hotel requirements.
  8. Coordinate special projects (eg. Deep cleaning, vermin control, window and carpet cleaning, room inventories)
  9. Supervise and inspect the cleaning of the guest rooms, turndown service, public areas and laundry room.
  10. Maintain all supplies and equipment for housekeeping department.
  11. Document and communicate maintenance requests to maintenance department.
  12. Respond to guest requests, concerns and problems to ensure guest satisfaction.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • At least two years’ experience in the housekeeping industry.
  • At least two years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Ideal candidates will have previous Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Express hotel experience.

A Chief Engineer with Grand Canyon Holiday Inn Express is responsible for directing and overseeing the functionality and safety of the facility to protect the well-being of all guests and team members in the hotels continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability.

What will I be doing?

As Chief Engineer, you would be responsible for directing and overseeing the functionality and safety of the facility to protect the well-being of all guests and team members in the hotels continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. Specifically, you would be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

  • Direct and oversee the functionality and safety of the facility, including, but not limited to, physical buildings, mechanical equipment, electrical systems, heating and cooling systems, life safety systems and grounds according to federal, state and local regulations
  • Work closely with Housekeeper and Front Desk Manager to ensure coordination of activities. May confer with other departments as necessary.
  • Conduct facility inspections
  • Assign, verify and document completion of all routine maintenance and repairs in the property maintenance management system
  • Direct, oversee and maintain required documentation for energy management and conservation and preventive maintenance programs
  • Lead, manage and communicate information about capital projects and property rehabilitations, including, but not limited to, scheduling, budgeting and complying with contractor bidding standards.
  • Obtain required licenses and permits to ensure full compliance with codes, regulations and safety standards
  • Direct daily department operations including, but not limited to, guest service standards and initiatives, product quality, inventory management and cost controls, systems use and management, budgeting and forecasting, and adherence to federal, state and local standards.
  • Monitor and develop team member performance to include, but not limited to, providing supervision and professional development, conducting counseling and evaluations and delivering recognition and reward
  • Recruit, interview and train team members.
  • Maintain the physical property, training records, and inspections according to IHG standards.


Requirements – What we are looking for.

  1. Proven experience as a Hotel Chief Engineer. 
  2. In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations
  3. Familiarity with plumbing, electrical, sewer and HVAC systems; hotel industry experience is a plus
  4. Experience in administrative processes (e.g. budgeting, performance management)
  5. Ability to spot safety risks and address needs quickly
  6. Problem-solving aptitude
  7. Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  8. High school diploma or equivalent; degree from a vocational school or BS/BA in Facility Management is preferred
  9. Prior IHG experience is a plus.
  10. Valid Certified Professional Maintenance Manager (CPMM) is a plus.
  11. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office WORD and EXCELL software.
  12. Pass E-verify requirements.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Grand Canyon is a 198-room property that averages 100-140 daily arrivals and departures for 80% of the calendar year. This hotel is committed to giving exceptional guest service to all our guests to make their stay comfortable and memorable. A Housekeeper has a key role in ensuring our hotel rooms and public areas are cleaned and well-kept for our hotel guests. A Housekeeper must take pride in his/her quality of cleanliness and presentation for the guest to be completely satisfied with their stay. The position demands physical labor and the ability to left more than 35 lbs. routinely. 


  • Clean guest rooms as assigned, including but not limited to making beds, cleaning bathrooms, dusting and vacuuming 
  • Change and replenish bed linens, towels and guest amenities, as needed 
  • Perform deep cleaning tasks, as needed
  • Stock, maintain and transport the housekeeping supply cart on a daily basis 
  • Dispose of trash and recyclables 
  • Respond to guest requests in a timely, friendly and efficient manner 
  • Must have a high standard for punctuality and following a posted work schedule 
  • Must maintain and promote a positive and cooperative work relationship with all hotel departments. 


  • High school diploma/GED preferred 
  • Requires ability to work efficiently without direct supervision 
  • Requires ability to follow verbal directions 
  • Requires ability to push, reach, stretch, squat and bend in routine daily work activities 
  • Requires the ability to lift 25-35 pounds intermittently during a work day 


Reports to Executive Housekeeper 

This company uses a progressive discipline process involving coaching and written documentation. Both are meant to make the employees aware of opportunities for improvement and give them the help needed to correct the situation. The first 90 days of employment is considered an introductory period and termination may result for attendance or work performance violations. Although employment is based on mutual consent and both the employee and the company have the right to terminate employment at will, with or without cause; the company may use progressive discipline at its discretion. 



  • After 1 year of employment 2 weeks of paid vacation time is given annually 
  • We follow the Arizona Paid Sick Leave Policy which is 1 hour for every 30 hours worked after 90 days of employment
  • Dental, Vision and Health Insurance are available and meet or exceed current Affordable Care Act requirements. 
  • After 1 year of full-time employment: personal time and vacation time are available 


  • Multi-tenant housing is available for full-time employees: 
  • ALL female units and ALL male units 
  • NO family housing, NO co-ed housing available 
  • Very affordable rent is payroll deducted every 2 weeks from your paycheck. 
  • Housing deposit will be split and deducted from your first 3 paychecks. 
  • Rent includes utilities. 
  • All units have basic furnishings so that you will just need to bring your personal belongings and any special items you may require. More details will be specified in your housing contract.
